Coordinated by the Port of Antwerp, an international consortium will receive a €25 million grant from the Horizon 2020 (Green Deal call) programme. The PIONEERS consortium representing major ports, terminal and transport operators, transporters, knowledge institutes, technology developers, innovators and public authorities will come up with concrete solutions to reduce GHG emissions in ports while safeguarding their competitiveness. The project has a time horizon of 5 years from the end of 2021.
PIONEERS is a highly ambitious project, rethinking all aspects of port operations, ranging from terminal operations, concession agreements, mobility, connectivity, to cooperation models and energy production, storage and use. The PIONEERS consortium convinced the evaluators with a variety of 19 ambitious demonstration projects in the field of clean energy production and supply, sustainable port design, modal shift and flow optimisation, and digital transformation.
Magellan’s role will involve creating a strong community around this ambitious action and facilitating cross-cooperation between local and international stakeholders. It will also ensure knowledge transfer by creating tailor-made trainings for each demonstrator project.
